Dr. Aki Otomo, originally from Vancouver, gravitated towards animals at a young age. By age six, Dr. Otomo knew she wanted to be a veterinarian, and she began working in the veterinary industry at the age of 16 as a kennel technician. Dr. Otomo received her DVM from St. George’s University in 2017 before completing her rotating internship at Ontario Veterinary College University of Guelph in 2018. Dr. Otomo then went on to complete her surgical internship at VCA Animal Specialty and Emergency Center (LA) in 2019 before moving onto her surgical residency at Louisiana State University in 2022. Most recently, Dr. Otomo completed her surgical oncology fellowship at Colorado State University in 2023, before joining the Care Center team. As a pet parent whose own pet once faced a cancer diagnosis, Dr. Otomo values the ability to be able to provide a number of treatment options to other pet parents sharing a similar experience. Dr. Otomo’s goal is to improve a pet’s quality of life throughout the cancer treatment process. When she isn’t treating cancer, Dr. Otomo can be found enjoying outdoor activities, traveling overseas, or spending time with her two cats – Beautiful Diamonds’ Princess and Jack.
