Interventional Radiology

Overview

Care Center is proud to be one of the few specialty practices in the nation with the equipment and trained medical team needed to practice Interventional Radiology (IR). A radiology subspecialty, IR uses advanced imaging techniques, such as ultrasound and fluoroscopy (continuous x-ray), for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Interventional Radiology Services

Why did we invest in IR? Because this minimally invasive approach has key advantages over traditional surgery and therapies. Patients often require less anesthesia, experience fewer complications, have shorter hospital stays with decreased pain and realize better outcomes.

Our Interventional Radiology Department includes specialists in internal medicine, surgery, and cardiology. We offer the following IR procedures:

  • Fluoroscopy - swallow studies, tracheal collapse, and additional therapeutic uses
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Balloon valvuloplasty for pulmonic stenosis
  • Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
  • Heartworm extraction
  • Endourology
  • Bladder tumors in dogs or cats that involve the ureterovesicular junction
  • Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass device (SUB) for ureteral obstructions in cats
  • Urethral stents for urethral neoplasia, strictures, or benign obstructive urethritis
  • Tracheal stents for collapsing trachea and tracheal strictures
  • Ureteral stents for ureteral obstruction in dogs
  • Nasopharyngeal stenting
  • Esophageal and colonic ballooning for both neoplastic and benign strictures
