Dr. Schrader graduated from Iowa State University in 1975. He then completed an internship and surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York City where he went on to become senior staff surgeon and head of the orthopedic and neurosurgical services. In 1987, he joined the faculty of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (Small Animal Surgery) at The Ohio State University. Dr. Schrader has given well over 100 presentations throughout the U.S. and abroad, is the author of numerous scientific articles and book chapters. He has been recognized on many occasions for his clinical teaching ability and, in 1986, Dr. Schrader received the New York City Veterinary Medical Association's Outstanding Service Award for his work in veterinary referral service.
